Influence-Based Leadership
As a leader, the ability to enroll others into a vision and inspire intrinsic motivation drives results and helps create a positive culture. This can be leadership in an organization, in a community, or at home. Influence-based leadership is a set of mindsets, character traits, and skills that are necessary for both formal and informal leaders.
We are often required to achieve objectives without clarity on how to do it. And regardless of our position, we often have to lead both internal and external stakeholders without formal authority to do so.
By becoming skillful with influence, rather than relying on positional power, teammates become enthusiastic partners toward a mission - rather than disengaged colleagues who grudgingly perform duties. Cultivating influence-based leadership skills also demands that we be at our best from the inside out, leading with authenticity and creating trust. This has obvious benefits to all of life’s relationships.
Influence-based leadership can be learned, but it is not a “subject” that can be completely taught. In my view, it is a discipline and a personal journey of building the following:
